A butch and a dyke? I haven't quite caught onto the difference if there is one.

Hi Tracy,

Thanks for your question.

Butch often refers to a woman whose appearance, actions, and/or mannerisms tend to be masculine without comment to sexual orientation.

Dyke often refers to a lesbian whose appearance, actions, and/or mannerisms tend to be masculine. It may also be used as a slur against women, much like f-- is used against men.

Good luck.

dyke is another name for a lesbian - butch is a word used to stereotype lesbians who act and dress in a more masculine way, bless you for caring, Lilith
