I'll say NY, it will be a little chilly but there is so much to see. I think there is a lot of cultural there. But if you are looking for a place to laid back and chill then try California-there is a lot to see there and that's where the majorities of the stars are and Disneyland. The state capital-Washington, DC is also a good place if you want to see monuments and go to museums for free. Las Vegas is good for gambling and to have a fun time. Or Florida-Disney World is there-and no mater your age that;s always a blast, and you can check out Miami and the beaches. The mid-west have things like the Grand Canyon and other sites. It really depends on what you are looking fun, relaxation, searching for stars or sightseeing. But check out the local states websites-they will tell you more. But start on one coast and take a road trip-till you see all of America, Have fun in America!!!

Well, the first question I have to ask is how much time do you have? I would absolutely reccomend starting in the Pacific NW. Washington, Oregon and California are fabulously green, beautiful states and there is a wonderful Highway that skims the coast (The Pacific Highway). You will see more lush greenery than you can imagine, mountains, the ocean, Seattle and Portland and then of course California is one of the most diverse states in the country as far as diversity of flora, fauna, climates, small quaint towns and massive sky-scraper flooded metropolises. Will you have a car?
If you do not have access to a car, nor much time, I guess I would then reccomend the east coast. The states are much smaller, everything is closer together and you can see more in a short period of time.
Are you looking for cities, night life, big buildings, lights, music etc - go to Las Vegas, LA, NY, Miami, Chicago, Seattle, SanFran, Houston...
If you are more outdoorsy, try Moab-Utah, Colorado, PNW, Arizona, Wyoming, Yosemite National Park, Mt, Rushmore...
The USofA is HUGE and so very diverse - you can find anything and everything! Check out Lonelyplanets info in the states:

Happy Travels!

Start in the Western States as it will be cold still on the East Coast. See the Grand Canyon (Arizona) and Monument Valley (Utah on the border of Arizona) hit Las Vegas on your way to California. You can get a really cheap flight from Vegas to LA. See Los Angeles then head up highway 1 along the coast to San Francisco. Stop in Santa Barbara along the way. See the redwood forest (North CA) and San Francisco area (see Big Sur if possible, don't know how much time you have) then head up to Oregon, and Washington states. Both are beautiful and you will start to see some of the native northwest Indian culture and art. Then go straight on up to Alaska.
You can rent a car and drive part of the way (especially the California Coast - leaving from Los Angeles, take the pacific Coast Highway PCH for the best views) and stay in little B&B's, and flights across the boring parts of the trip are very cheap. (do not bother to drive from Vegas to Los Angeles - trust me) Route 66 is not what it used to be, but research it in case it has something you'd like to see.
You'll want to check the web for more detailed info on where to go in the different areas. There is so much to see. You will have a great time. Spring is a great time to visit the west and Northwest. You will see large cities, tiny towns and amazing natural scenery - all of which is very American. We are a varied lot, and fairly easygoing. Actually, there is no typical American come to think of it, variety is what we are all about. Come see for yourself :)

If you like mountains an ocean and beauty head for seattle, go through idaho and montana, the dakotas are great. Especially South, then to Michigan and over to NYC. hehe LONG road trip. I wouldn/t recommend LA actually. It's too crowded and you might get the wrong impression.......of well, the beauty that America has. San Fran and Northern Cali are great in my opinion though.

My advice: Don't place too much emphasis on the stereotypical "American" cities: Los Angeles, etc.
Why not start your trip in a city like Savannah, Georgia or Charleston, South Carolina.
Visiting these cities will allow you to experience the US in a way that many of your "mates" have not.
