Theoretically I will go straight for loved, but practically speaking they both work with one difference.. that being feared will have a short term compliance from your friends, but being loved is always a positive advantage.

I would have to say that being loved is much better. When you are loved, people can be themselves with you without fear. Love has a way of wrapping one's sould around that individual in a sacred hug that is everlasting.
Fear is something you run or hide from because you don't necessarily feel you can conquer it. It is never good to be feared because there is a definite "dislike" with the word fear.
With love, everything is beautiful.
With fear, there is nothing but darkness.

Are you getting this from Macchiavelli's "The Prince"? Personally, I could do without fear and hate and violence, etc, so I believe it is better to be loved.

Definitely to be loved and experience love. The most perfect love is how God shows his love for us by giving us Jesus and Jesus shows his love for God and us by doing his Father's will. Awesome
