I am getting a sleevless black velvet dress for holiday parties and need to get a shrug to wear with it (it's 23°F here). I don't know what material works best: knit, silk, faux fur, crochet, etc... Help!

WHITE FUR!!! that would look gorgeous with a black velvet dress. it would be so classy and stylish! plus its warmer than any other of those materials just whatever you do, DONT get a crocheted shrug!

Yeah, so you may not want a guys opinion but here it goes. I just did pics with my daughter (10 1/2 mo) and she had a black velvet dress with a cream top with a black embroideredy on the dress. Went with a black button down sweater, similar to a fur, but not pricewise. Besides, consider the party is indoors. They will take your coat at the door. No point in spending an arm and a leg for the walk from the car. Creams, burgandy, or black for the holiday. Who knows. I'm just a guy.

I'd say silk, but since it's cold, your best option would be faux fur. Have fun!
