So at this point, you want to make this your PERSONAL computer? Do you share this computer with anyone else?

Discuss this with your parents. Make an agreement that the computer is YOURS... (or not). If it turns out to be THEIR computer, then they have that right. (sorry).

These sorts of family squabbles are not for the public to decide. Confront your family with these issues and attempt to reconcile.

Good luck and Happy Computing!

It may be quite difficult to find out if your parents have any logging software, especially if your PC is running Windows. Processes and data can be hidden fairly well. Depending on how the PC gets on the Internet they can even keep tabs of what you are doing online without installing any software on that PC. Of course this depends on how far they are willing to go to bust you.

You should keep track of running processes, programs set to run when windows starts and modification dates for files (that may contain the info they're storing).

Some tracking software can email the tracker to keep them up-to-date about whats being done on the PC. Installing a firewall should be able to block this.

If you have several PCs, and they are networked together to share a common means of getting on the Internet then they can probably log everything your doing on the net that's not encrypted in some way.

parents no longer need spyware. Microsoft made it easy for you or someone else to see what and where you been on your pc.

Just through cookies, history, dat files, recent docs and the list can go on.....
Yup, once you're 18 they should trust you and hope they raise you to know right from wrong.

Most likely these type programs will show up in the running processes. Start>Run>type Msconfig>Startup.

Now look for programs that are checked. If they look weird google them and you will have your answer. Removing them is another thread.
