how can i find people on the net with just their name and 4 free??

Try googling for their name in quotes, eg "John Smith". If they have a common name then you might need to add something about them after the quotes (location, organisation, etc) to narrow it down a bit.
The Myspace search page which lets you enter a persons name and see any matching members.
Bebo also has a lot of members now and although it doesnt have a search function itself, you can search for members by name on http://www.bigulo.com/

You can try google.com. If you know their name and the city they live in I would type that. For example Bob Smith, Denver Colorado.
ZoomInfo is another you may have luck with:
