I found all these answers by typing "school day" into the search box. For more information, follow the link below.

A longer school day would allow students to stay in class longer, therefore learning more, therefore boosting their test scores.

or, which would be a better benefit, an extended school day would give students more options to take as classes. i know for me i have no choice of an elective this year unless i wanted to drop a core class. a longer day would help students in my school, like me, who want an elective but they don't have the time in their schedule.

an extended school day could also lead to a study hall period which would help students get higher grades (guaranteeing they get their homework done) and get better test grades because it can be a time for clinic or a time to study

______

one con about a longer school day is athletes. At my school, we start at 7:33 am, end at 2:!5 and sports are from 3:00 - 5:00 (sometimes even 2:30) . if the school day is extended, it cuts into their homework time and causes them to have to be up longer, making thier grades suffer. this actually goes for anyone with an extra-curricular activity.

another con to an extended school day is that there might not be enough things for the students to do... they can take more classes, therefore some classes will become larger.

a school day shouldnt be extended because kids need play time and relax time which they would not have if they go to school 2more hours...between home-work,chores,15 minutes of reading and a bed time that is probably fairly early when would a child have personal time?...got to fit dinner in there too...unless they go later to school...by the way also if the parents work and the kids get out late the parents may be less likely to be helpful with home-work and such because they will be tired too.

those hours could be used to do homework, although the opposing end would argue that homework would be done in class... well what about that it takes away from family time, friend time, and, frankly, from having a life?

If school days are extended, then yes, the children will get a better education, but children also need a lot of time to do homework, get fresh air and be doing physical activities outside, and plus, school days should not be extended by 2 hours, because some students might have special things that they have to go to (maybe guitar lessons or something) and if school was extended, then they wouldn't be able to make it.

students need time to study

"" to have with thier families
"" to complete thier duties at home
Longer school days does not equal better education. What a large misconception.

Making the day too long will put students off. After awhile there is no desire to learn. We need to concentrate much harder on the QUALITY of the education, NOT the length.

I can not agree with your disagreement. We are rated 20th in the world in science education and 25th in the world in math. So, I think you could extend the hours by two and go to the all year round school system until that math/science discrepancy is reduced significantly.

I won't write it for you, but you should not have trouble finding verification online that teens need more sleep.

First paragraph: Intro, your topic and stand on that topic.

Second paragraph: Scientific supporting information.

Third paragraph: Non-scientific supporting information (scheduling busses for school, coordinating with parent's work schedule, time for healthy breakfast)

Fourth paragraph: Your own experience and feelings about it.

Fifth paragraph: Summary and re-iteration of central proposition.
