have you ever worked a 12 hour shift without a break, put up with abusive patients doctors relatives trashy work conditons , ever reducing resources so the job is made harder by bean counters and politicians, been kicked, spat at ,vomited over ,peed on, dealt with more crap than anyother profession I can think of ,have your work devalued by some imbecile who doesn't know or care the first thing about what they are talking about and still provide a caring service to the public because it's a vocation rather than a job ! yes we deserve recognition for what we have done ,
by the way are you working christmas day this year or boxing day or new years eve or day guess what I am !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well said Andrew. Did you know nurses can be sued up to 21 years after treating a patient? How would you like to think about that when you go to work everyday..even if the nurse did nothing wrong..Nures cram a lot of learning into the short time they are school, put up with Sh-- from patients and family and other staff..doctors treat you like you are a piece of dirt...They don't just work 9-3. They don't take a break..just because they are tired. They have to be on alert every second of every day..patients lives depend on it..it's not like they go to work and twiddle their thumbs. If you get a nurse who works ER or ICU, they definately never get a break..have you been to an ER lately..who does everything..not the doctors..on any floor the nurses do everything..People who have no skills and flip burgers want more money..don't you think it's only fair that people who deal with life and death every day should get more money...from someone who has worked in health care..I will tell you that they work D---hard and are NEVER appreciated enough..

Because 60 hours a week is a bit more than you probably do in 2 weeks and we get much less pay than a majority of manual workers!
Ask me that again when I see you in A&E!

Because they deserve it. Many can't afford to live close to where they work, hours are very long, pay is not great.
Same goes for firefighters, if they want more money, give it to them.

For the same reason our members of parliament are asking for a 66% pay rise except they are more worthy of it than our lazy duckegg politicians.
