Donald Rumsfeld noted that his own strategy in Iraq was not working and called for a major course correction.

Most significantly, Rummy urged a change from “Stay the Course” to an admonition to the Iraqis to “Drop your Cocks and Grab your Socks” — which itself is unlikely to work, given the fact that the sock factory in Baghdad has no electricity, thanks to “Operation Iraqi Freedom”?

Rummy isn't the brightest bulb. His memo will add to the information against Bush and his administration.

Rummy was disgruntled and saw a chance to turn the tables on Bush & Co.

The psychological answer: He knew he deserved to be canned, so he hit a point where he didn't care anymore. Like when someone commits a crime then does things that make them more likely to get caught, out of surpressed guilt.

The probable answer: He wrote memos like that all the time and the white house managed to surpress them, but since his resignation, his enemies in the defense department/state department were emobldened to leak the memo.

Rumsfeld is a man of integrity.

He doesn't care WHO is right but WHAT is for the defense of our country.

He is a problem solver of the highest order and continued to do so up until the last minute.

The strategy, by the way, is built upon recommendations from the Joint Chiefs of Staffs, along with a half dozen influential advisors.

Seeing only part of the truth is as bad as seeing all of the lies.

Yes, but I don't think he hit anything - already too many holes from previous shootings. Really - I almost feel pity for him. He's another guy "taking one for the team," in the Bush Administration. I said almost, because too many people have died because of his arrogance and incompetence.

Rummy has a lot of dirty laundry, and unmatched socks.
