Every year from the time my kids were born I have purchased or let them create a unique ornament for the tree which I would date.On my tree we can see where it is we were on vacation in 99 or what the kids made in school in Kindergarten. Looking at our tree is like going down memory lane. When they leave home and have their own tree I will give them these 18 special ornaments for a start on their own Christmas memories.

About 30 years ago, I made what I thought was a cute ornament. I had an egg-shaped styrofoam form that was open on all four sides, around which I pinned/glued pale blue ribbon, with a jump-ring at the top where the ribbons crossed. Around the openings I pinned/glued clear iridescent sequins with pale blue seed beads; the inside I coated with a clear glitter called diamond dust. As a finishing touch, I added a tiny Holy Family of cream-colored plastic with touches of gold.
That same year, I made a second one for our parish's associate priest and his family. Imagine my surprise the following Sunday when, after the lessons, he showed it to the congregation and then delivered a sermon inspired by it!

My favorite ornament is a little cookie jar that has 2 gingerbread people coming out of the top. On the front it has Our First Christmas. Below the cookie jar is a little heart that says 2003.

I don't have me tree up or decorated yet but I have this really cute one that is not the least bit christmassy...it's a cowboy made out of leather it is painted to show the clothes and the face; the reason I was given it is because I am a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys.

Just one? Ok....It is a round, silver plate that my Grandmother gave me when I was a boy. It has a picture of an Angel painted on it. It is no bigger than a regular size glass ornament, but I love it. It is almost as old as I am.
