It's for my homework in pre-algebra. I can't figure it out, and it's on my nerves. lol! I keep getting 0. But I know it's not right because the answer has a letter and it goes in a riddle, and it wouldn't make sense if it was 0.

8u=3u+35
5u = 35

u = 7

8u= 3u+35
-3u -3u
5u=35
35 divided by 5u
u=7

now put it back into the problem 8*7 is 56 3*7 is 21
56=21+35

final answer is u=7

8u - 3u = 35
5u = 35
u = 35/5
u = 7

8u = 3u + 35 (Subtract 3u from both sides)
5u = 35 (Divide both sides by 5)
u = 7

Check:
8(7) = 3(7) + 35
56 = 21 + 35
56 = 56

you - 3u from both sides. then it is 5u=35 divide each side by 5 = 7
