no, because of multiple ear and throat infections I had to take swimming lessons with 6 and 7 year olds when I was 17. The teacher used my bravery as a way to get the little kids to do something they were afraid to do, and I'm sure they ALL can swim much better than I can today!

Not at all...be sure of yourself..and you will be fine. I have coached a summer team for many many years and we have some our best success stories with swimmers who start and join us when they are 10 or over. Sometimes it may seem difficult compared to their peers who have been swimmign since they were 3 or 4, but the improvement...which is what my summer team looks at...those older newbies are the winners there. Good luck, and hopefully you will be learning from someone who is sensitve to the age differences in the swimmers. You are learning a life time activity that can even one day save your life. More power to you...I have also attempted adult lessons for beginners, but myslef, I cant etach them...there are peopel who are great teaching even adult beginnign swimmers

No, I know many people who learned in college. You are 14, a growing boy, if you do learnt o swim, and keep at it, you are in the perfect time for your body to grown into a swimmers built which you'll be happy to have your entire life. I don't know anyone who developed a swimmers built at your age who's not happy he did. Having a big back a chest is sometime you'll always be proud of. That is, if you take that step, and learn to swim, and keep swimming until you are 18.

It's really not that bad, I mean, big deal so you don't know how to swim. That's something people will have to accepted you for. Besides at least your making an effort to learn how to swim. Lots of people don't even try to do something that they really want to because they are afraid of what people will say about them. So next time you go to a pool party you can show all the girls your new moves, and they'll be drooling over you!

No! It's not embarrassing. After a while you may really excel at it and everyone will look up to you. I know someone that started swimming at 39. It's never too late.

no it is not embarrasing for a 14 year old to start swimming. if you want a 14 year old to start swimming enroll him in teen lessons and he will be happy to swim with his peers.

No, it shouldn't be that bad. You might be a little embarrassed at first but you'll get used to it. Everyone NEEDS to know how to swim because if you don't you could drown. Embarrassment won't kill you at least.
