The word idle means to pass time doing nothing; not working or active. So the person is basically doing nothing but is still logged on and can receive your im's. Hope that helps.

If someone hasn't move the mouse for awhile it goes idle. So they aren't using the messager or the computer. As soon as that mouse moves they ain't idle no more

Idle means that the person hasn't been using the IM for the amount of minutes & or hrs. that they have been logged in. :-)

It means that they're still on messenger, but they're not talking on there.
