Hello, my doctor increased my wife's perscription medicine (thorazine) last month and she skipped her period. Then this month when her next period was due, she had it on schedule. Her periods usually last 8 days, but this period has been going on for 13 days with no signs of finishing. Is this normal? Is this an emergency? My wife is scared to go to the doctor in this condition. Please help!

It is normal for her to have a heavy/longer period because she skipped it last month. It is not an emergency unless she is feeling dizzy or sick. If it doesn't stop within a few more days, she should call her gyn doc for an appointment. If she begins to feel tired all the time, dizzy, or generally sick she should see a doctor immediately.

WOW . . i just had this problem!!!! . . I went to the doc. a few times first they put me on hormones . . Don't take them, not needed . . My body supposidly got so used to taking birth control it wasn't sure what it was doing anymore . . i bled for 2 months and they gave me hormones and it stoped for a week then started again and kept going for 1.5 months. A second opion from a doctor i recieved made me quit taking hormones, pills and everything and go natural and it's been 3 weeks and no bleeding or spotting or anything. But she does need to get it check out for bleeding is never good so that's why i went it. for something could be wrong weather cancer or cyst or anything. Better to know now while it's preventable. Per PIIXXEE, if you call the Nurse . .and they hear you are bleeding they say you should come in no matter what for it's not normal for your body to let out that much blood . . that was the first thing i call in and asked for the same thing . .she told me to come in and see a doctor, i really didn't want to go in, so i asked what was the determining factor and she said it was because of the bleeding.

She really shouldn't to go to her Dr. she need to be able to feel conformable in any situation to call or go in.

She can always just call his/her nurse and explain what is going on and they will consult with the Dr. and let you know if this is normal and give you the information you need.

You know that is what you pay your Dr. for to help you when you need it.

As women our bodies react different to different things we are all different. Try and help her relax her being stressed doesn't help her (yes easy for me to say I know) the stress can cause the bleeding to last longer. Rub her neck her back help her relax. You seem to be a good husband to be worried to ask this Q.

Unless there is pain associated with the bleeding I dont think its an emergency, however I think she should call her gyn and talk to them asap and possibly schedule an appointment
