The only way they can be recovered is if you svaed them somewhere else "4 reel".

Mostly no, but...

Norton made its reputation with utilities to recover from situations like this. Norton was bought by Symantec a few years back. I recommend checking their web site for current data recovery tools.

A simple Format of the hard drive does not overwrite anything but the drive map. The data is still there, but it takes a computer professional to recover it. If your missing data is truly valuable (worth a lot of money to recover), you can pay a pro to get it back. Most people have a geeky friend who setup their PC in the first place (I am one), and such amateurs can succeed with the right tools.

FYI: In extreme cases, there are firms who can recover data from pieces of a hard drive broken by a hammer. These firms typically work for spooky Government agencies and - as you might guess - are quite expensive. Still, some businesses find it worth the money to recover their data.

Finally, from the lessons learned department, I recommend you buy an external backup drive and use it every night (autmated tools can do this for you). Several models are available from www.buy.com for less than $200, some under $100.

Check tucows.com for utility software. Yes, you can totally recover the hard drive. Don't listen to the ignorant people who have watched too much TV. You may not get everything, but it's possible. My advice is to go to Costco or Sams and pick up a Westgate 120gb portable hard drive and back up once a month. But that is just me :) IT'll only help in the future. Good luck.

If your drive was formatted and it was not backed-up or partitioned, you have lost everything. There is no way to recover - in formatting, all data is wiped clean to create a completely blank drive so there are no problems with a clean re-install of an OS.

I'm sorry, but anything that was on that drive before the format is gone.

Offcourse you can recover data from a formatted disk. Search the net and you will find plenty of recovery softwares...but to recover you will need a separate harddisk ...then scan the formated disk with the software and then select and save on the other hard disk.

you won't be able to recover data on the same formatted disk.

one thing more make sure that you don't copy any data on your formated harddisk before recovering...coz that might destroy your data permanently and you won't be able to recover that.
