It's hard to say for sure if a fairy tale type story originated in France or not, but Charles Perrault made a point of translating French tales in his book, The Tales of Mother Goose.
I'm providing a link to a translation.

Some of the stories exist in earlier versions, however. I once read an ancient Greco-Egyptian story that bore a strong resemblance to the story of Cinderella (it was about a slave girl who owned a pair of red slippers that were stolen by a bird and dropped into the yard of the prince, who went out to look for the owner and eventually she married him.) Sleeping Beauty was first recorded in a story called Sun, Moon and Talia from Italy in the 1600s. But hopefully the Perrault collection with give some help -- I don't know of an earlier version fo Puss in Boots, for example.

Cinderella, who wore squirrel fur (vair) slippers instead of glass (verre). That's one version, but it's been challenged by others who speculate that her slippers were 'really'made of amber, from an old Latin word for that substance.

The glass slipper one. Haven't you wondered about the practicality of a glass shoe? It's a mis-translation from the French word for "fur."
