Dpends on where you live. Being this cold, it would have to wait for the glow plugs to warm up the cylinders first. Then it should be able to start. Then if done already, it could be the fuel filter. Or the fuel broke down seperated and such.

well first of all if it a diesel and it is not getting gas, that would be a good thing.. Second yes a bad fuel filter would do what you are talking about. just be sure to prime the filter after changing it. you could also have a bad fuel pump as well. You should have an in-line 6 Cummings In that truck and the filter is not that difficult to change

Yeah you should replace the fuel filter every 15,000 miles. Also make sure that the fueling station did not get a fresh load of fuel cause it tends to stir up the crap at the lower end of the tank. Air filter could be a problem as well check it

It should have couple of filters under the hood. One has a drain valve on the bottom. Open that drain and if water comes out, continue to drain it until diesel comes out. The other will have to be removed to drain. Dump the contents in a bucket and see if any water is present, if it is, replace both filters, because many times fuel will not flow through a water soaked filter.

Try heat treatment in the fuel, if you don't your fuel will freeze. You need to put it in every tank during the winter. I forgot and would get 30 miles down the road and it would quit or wouldn't start at all some mornings. People told me it was the glow plugs, until my Daddy realized he had forgot to tell me to treat the fuel since we moved to cold weather from Florida.
