The classic controller is for wii's virtual console games.
(SNES, N64, etc...) You can use wii points you buy in stores and buy online games from older nintendo consoles. Using the classic controller just helps the gaming feel more authentic.

Because most people assume that if the system is sold out, than the controlers must be sold out. So the desperate people bid crazy ammounts.

Stock's are pretty much sold out. You could get on a waiting list if you look for online store at nintendo.com
