A metaphor does not use the word LIKE, that would be a simile. A metaphor is just a comparison WITHOUT using the words LIKE or AS. Yao Ming is a tree is a good one.

The basic formula for a metaphor is "(blank) is a (blank)".
3 examples: My father is the glue that held our family together.
My mother is a swan--elegant and beatiful. My little brother is a pig.
Remeber, metaphors do not use the works "like" or "as"!
Good Luck.

your question itself is a metaphor for ignorance and my answer is a metaphor for the changing power of information and knowledge
ps
a simile is a comparison using "like or as" such as... "the wind is like a train blowing by" or "life is like a journey"

actually when you use "like" it becomes a similie.....
a metaphore is saying something IS something, for example:
"You are a pig"
you arent actaully, but you are comparing somwthing, and saying you ARE
"Yous smell LIKE a pig" is a simile,
as is "Your as smelly as a pig"
you get the idea!
