I have a refurbished HP Omibook 6100 laptop. The battery is dead and unchargeable (it always stays at 0%) which means that I can only use the laptop with a power cord.

Is there any way at all I can make my battery chargeable and usable again?

I heard stories of people freezing their battery in the freezer over night and then being able to use it again. Is that true?

Any other tips which might work?

No, that type of battery has a limited life. Even if you never use it, they stop working after a number of years. Once it's dead it's dead. You need to get a new battery.

If you have a nickel-metal-hydride battery it may be possible to have the cells replaced. Look in the Yellow Pages for battery distributors or specialists.

However, most laptop batteries are now Lithium-Ion. The cells used in those batteries cannot be replaced. You will have to buy a new battery.
