I just bought suede vans (slips ons) and would like some tips on how to keep the suede looking good other than using water/stain repellants

I used to work in a shoe store and I would definitely use the water stain repellent for suede shoes. Otherwise just a light sprinkling of rain will mark them up pretty good. Use only the repellent that is for suede, not the one for smooth leathers. And reapply every few months. good luck.

you make no sense!! If you don't want to use water and stain repellants, you must not want to take care of them. There is a very good one I bought at Journeys. Try it! Its great!!

Don't wear them in the rain. They will fall apart.
