To share a printer do both desktop PC's need network cards? The computer directly connected to the printer does not have a network card. The other desktop does. I'm using a wireless N router and can connect to the internet with the 2nd PC but I can't figure out how to be able to print from the 2nd PC. Thanks in advance to all of you that are willing to help us that don't have a clue.

I am just contemplating this myself... literally going to go home and try this tonight... I will let you know how it turns out and if it works I will let you know how I did it.

You need to set up a network between the two computers. I don't know what a wireless N router is, but assuming that is 802.11(a/b or g), you will need another 802.11(a/b or g) NIC in the other PC. A, b, g indicates the type of 802.11 wireless, B or G is the most common. G is compatible with B. You will also need a wireless access point, however your router probably provides that for you? It will probably be as simple as adding the appropriate NIC and setting up the network properties.

Then you need to use control panel to set up the network. Once you can see one PC from the other in My Network places, you can share the printer.

Ok you need to share the printer in order for the other computer to connect this way. In order for it to work you need to have the computer that the printer is connected turned on. OR! you can buy yourself a printserver. This little piece of equipment allows you to print directly to the printer even if the other computer is not turned on, and it wont matter if its not turned on because the printer will be connected to the network and not to the computer itself!

Good Luck!

The Printer should have a network card. You will have to have a network and you just config the printer to join the network.
