Uhh, just because you're goth doesn't mean you worship the devil. Besides, the true meaning of someone who is goth is someone who listens to goth rock. People who just dress in dark clothes and stuff aren't really goth, they're just posers (spooky kids... more on that at the bottom). Being goth is all about the music. For instance, I listen to a lot of goth rock so technically I would be considered a goth, but I'm not sad all of the time nor do I dress in all black. I would say I dress more like a prep than anything.

However, there is such a thing as a "spooky kid". A spooky kid is someone who aspires to be a goth yet is more concerned with being a goth on the outside than on the inside. This has become what people really think goth is, when it's not. These are the posers that just think being goth is just about the look.

So, please people, learn the real definition of what a goth is.

They just don't understand goths. It's the fear of the unknown
People seem to think that goths are vampiric, devil worshipping freaks clad all in black with no emotion. Unfortunately because of this goths have to put in an extra effort to show how nice they truly are. Once someone actually takes the time to know one, they won't be scared anymore.

Any goth I've ever met, though appearing somewhat gloomy because of their dress, are a lot more upbeat and fun than you might think and all around are very good people. Personally it's not the goths I fear, it's the preps, the swag fags, the so called "normal" people, the everyday average Joe I suppose you could say, because from what I've learned in my (though short, very eyeopening) life is that the people you don't expect to be kind are often the nicest, and the people who seem, well, normal enough, probably nice people are often terrible.

If anyone who isn't goth or is scared in any way of them takes time to read this, I ask you, just give them a chance. You'll be surprised.

Personally? Nothing. I have no problems with goths. The only thing I ever had against a goth was one threatening me with a switchblade, but I do not think that that represents the typical goth. Most people just seem to pick out the goths because they're easy to identify by dress. I know that I surely disliked the majority of Jocks and Cheerleaders in my day, but only if they were in uniform and I noticed, otherwise they were normal people. Also, I believe it is the stereotype that goths are into death, piercings, and negativity. Certainly everyone is to some extent and why not? I'm a negative person, yet I am not goth. I think about death in all of it's different facets yet I am not goth. I am not fond of piercings but that's personal choice. People are just ignorant and/or blind. Don't let them bother you about being goth; be what you want. The goths just have a bad image in most cases... at my high school they were our theatre tech department (and still are). We loved them just as much as any of the other members of the theatre. Just a thing I live by: the majority people are uneducated, ignorant, and selfish. This pretty much sorts things out for me in most circumstances. I wish you luck, and don't let people screw with you when they don't even know what they're talking about but also don't be violent back at them. That only makes matters worse and promotes ignorance.
Ken.
p.s. Congrats on the large response. :)

I don't have have anything against you! I know some poeple who hate goths, heres where i stand: I'm not going to hate someone that i haven't even met or have only seen in a store, however, correct me if i'm wrong but wasn't goth suppossed to be people who wanted to be differant from normal people? Well look what it is now? Goth is now one of the most largest stereotypes there is in the world! So basically if you're being goth just because you want to be differant, you're are being ludacris! However if 'goth' was basicly a way of saying you're differant, than where did this whole we all dress the same come from? Thats not being differant at all! So instead of being goth just be yourself! I listen to gothic/emo/hardcore music, that doesn't mean i'm goth or emo! It simply means i like that music. So i'm not going to hate you because i have no idea what your personality is like, but i do think that the stereotype that you are involved in is ludacris.

People don't find goth cool anymore. Some think it's better to style up rather than clad in all black. I have nothing against being a goth. I rather like it in fact. It's people's choice what to be like and what to wear.

Goths are still hot, so are emo. Its just the ignorant, know nothing about fashion people that you are talking about, and those people don't count! It sucks to see so many negative answers to your question. There are many people out there that don't know music, don't know culture, or have never lived in a big city. There is so much more to a person than just the way they choose to dress, In fact Gothic people are more real than all the other fake people responding to your question so negatively. They dislike people for some features they wish they can see in themselves, it reminds me of all those teen movies, where there is the white chic from beverly hills picking on the girl from the trailer park. Let them switch roles and see what kind of person they will become. I would rely on a Gothic person before I rely on anyone else.

Because a lot of goths seem so angry at the world and jealous of the athlete, prep, cheerleader, etc. Besides, I think many goths WANT people to dislike them. That is part of the attraction to goth-ism for them. That being said, I know a lot of goths and they are cool as hell!!
