Emo rock originated in 1985. It stands for Emotional. It is a type of poser hardcore punk. It really didn't reach the peak of its popularity to a couple of years ago. In the fashion sense it is like poser goth.

there is n such thing as an emo. emo just means emotional. however one can be an emotional person. it is not a true "stereotype".
