I am a Christian who also loves a good story. The idea in fiction is to write things that are NOT true to make them SOUND true. How is this a problem with the DaVinci Code?
People need to relax!!

I've never read the book or seen the movie, but even though it's fiction, it's offensive because some people actually do believe in the ideas presented in it. it's possible that the author does also. Also, even if the author did simply intend it for fiction, the idea that Jesus was in love with Mary Magdeline is quite blasphemous and you shouldn't toy around with such ideas because it is disrespectful. How would you feel if somebody made a movie or book that proposed that you did something terrible that you never did?

i am a christian and i do not find it offensive. its not just being a christian that makes it 'offensive'. The catholic church found it particulary offensive... something to hide maybe.

to be honest though, people have been speculating that story for years, and some people belive it is true. but they were most offended that the divinci code was so papular. 1000s of people read the book or watched the movie. Maybe they felt threatened?

They find it offensive because the popularity of the book leads to a number of people believing the concepts of the book which mislead away from Christianity. The Bible teaches that one of the greater sins is to actually mislead either non-believers or new believers. That is why it is viewed as offensive.

To the extent that it misrepresents the members of the Opus Dei group of adherants, anyone could see it as offensive. I am not a member of Opus Dei, nor a Christian of any flavor, but maligning the members of a devotional group by exaggerating their beliefs and practices is wrong, and leads to prejudice and bigotry.

I suppose because the whole underlying theme is
" what if this IS true? What if it's not just fiction?"..anyway I don't know as I'm an atheist ..but I do think the book & movie are crappy..

I call myself a Catholic but i don't go to church cus i think i don't have to do so to be in touch with God or something like that, I've always thought that as long as you don't do bad things and love the Lord that everything is fine.

In this case, my opinion is that people are so troubled about their faith that they cant bare to have something trying to change it, and so what if it was true, does that make Jesus any different?? he was a person just like us!!!! The church has blind spots, things that cant exactly be explained to the followers, so something trying to change the beliefs of people concerning the church cant be accepted by it.

some where worried it gave the wrong impression other christians thought it was cool caus it made people want to join the church

whatever the case though most christians would not like the idea of a decendent of their god living on earth because of the ramifications it would have on the catholic church

i bet a lot of them wondered what type of person that person would be and how they would influence the way people think

christians despise change and I bet the thought of an athiest decendent of their god would terrify them

I know. As a fellow Christian, I found that it (the book/movie) was a good way to start discussion about what we believe. From what I know about it, It was a good story, I agree.

Work of fiction???? And this whole time I thought it was a comedy. I mean anyone that would write something so poorly reseached and reliant on fringe, tabloid-styled notions has to intend some "tongue-in-cheek" comedic value. Right?
