How can I fix this? We even switched our printing paper to a better quality paper. Same problem. Do I need to tune-up the printer somehow by cleaning the roller?

When I use the same paper in the fax machine and copy machine, I have no problems. It's almost as the roller that comes down to grab the paper is putting too much force and grabbing more than one. If only there was an easy way to loosen the amount of pressure applied.

And yes, I ALWAYS fan out the sheets before putting them in the tray to print.

Happens to me too, I just put only about 12-15 sheets of paper into the tray. Sometimes when it gets really stubborn and it will,I have to handfed it single sheets....go figure.

Install a roller kit which comes with a separation pad for tray 1.

The roller kit includes instructions on how to install the components for Tray 1 which are a separation pad and feed/pickup roller. The roller kit also includes other rollers that commonly wear out and are part of the laser printer's maintenance cycle. Feed and pickup rollers should not be smooth.

You can purchase an after market roller kit from the link below:

If you want the part numbers for just the roller and pad:

RG5-3718: Tray 1 / Pickup Roller
RG5-5281: Tray 1 / Separation Pad

These can be ordered from www.printerworks.com

1 or 2 things....too much paper or the paper weight is too much (paper is too heavy)

But just in case, get a can of compressed air, and clean out the insides, (open it up) -- after that is done, try putting just 5 or 6 pages in the tray, and print off 1, see if it still tries to pick up more than 1.

If it does then youre in trouble because working on those things is almost as expensive as buying a new one.

Its normally just the paper, Ive had this problem before, before you load paper into the printer, run your thumb on the side like your flipping through a book, loosen up the sheets before loading them.

Only put one piece of paper in the manual feed tray.
