A gold jewelry peice can be damaged with relative ease, but the only thing you could really do to ruin gold would involve melting it down either too often (trying to recast a piece multiple times without introducing new metal), or polluting the molten metal with a foreign substance (i.e. messing up the alloy). It's sturdy stuff.

Lots of things can ruin gold because it is a really really soft metal. You can bend it, scratch it, discolor it, and more. That's why platinum is becoming more popular for wedding rings and such.

probably some type of acid like HCL. intense heat can melt it and ruin the shape. you can also chip or bend it by hitting it on a rough and stronger surface.
