As a matter of fact, when Clinton left, the DowJones was around 11,800 so the economy is not a big deal.

Spending an entire 5 years to get the economy back on its feet because you ignored the pre-9/11 Intelligence reports and then implementing huge tax breaks for the rich, which affect the middle class negatively to bring up the economy is NOT something to be proud of.

Oh my God....lol this is so pathetic on the behalf of the republicans that I am laughing!

Your post is incorrect in various areas.

1. The economy is alot more than just the stock market.

2. Even if the stock market comprised the whole economy, the Dow dipped to the 8000 range after 9/11. Rebounding as it has is very much impressive.

3. Intelligence reports were NOT ignored. If you're referring to reports that Bush received on bin Laden's intent to attack, that was hardly news. Clinton and his advisors knew the same thing years before.

4. Tax breaks were for everyone, not just "the rich."

5. The rich received alot of money back because the rich pay the overwhelming majority of taxes in the US. The top 25% of all earners pay 85% of income taxes. Did you know that? Of course not.

6. Tax cuts did not impact the middle class "negatively" -- the opposite actually. Unemployment went DOWN, the stock market went UP, home ownership has gone up, disposable income consequently has gone up, etc.

7. You're utterly clueless.

I will take a shot.

As a conservative who leans toward the libetarian (but can't spell) view, I would say that the 109th congress did not do too much. I wish they would have addressed illegal immigration harder and taken more of a stand in helping us win this war we are in. Now having said that, lets talk about Clinton, the economy, and anything else.

To think that one man is responsible for everything is foolish. Clinton had very little to do with the Dow being 11,000 +. Have you heard of the tech companies of the 90's? Their boom and subsequent bust were the cause for the rise and fall, not either president and not 9/11. What about the USS Cole? 93 WTC bombing? Where was Lil' Billy then. Embasy bombings in Saudi Arabia and Africa?

As for 9/11, yes it had a negative impact, all tragic things do, but to put the blame of ignoring the intelegence all on Bush is insane. Clinton had tons of warning and tons of intel on what was going on. He had several opprotunities to take out those planning and did nothing. This is fact. To put the blame all on Bush is the typical knee jerk liberal reaction who has nothing intelligent to say on a subject other then "blame Bush mannnnnn".

Let me tell you what will happen. We will pull out of Iraq, It will send a signal to the muslims that they can push us around. The radicals will make a move at Isreal, having already infiltrated many European nations. Look at France's problem. Yeah yeah, I know, econmics, not religion. So while they yell allah ak bar (how ever you spell it) when they are lighting buses on fire, you can sit back and make excuses for them. They will begin a wave of terror like we have never seen.

I bet you claim to be a culturally tolerant person. The thing you do not realize is that you support a group (muslims) who are not tolerant of you, your culture, or your views. If you are gay, they will kill you. (look at Iran) If you do not join Islam, they will kill you. They want to destroy our way of life. It has been this way for centuries. This is just the newest battle in a 1000 year war. The problem is we have lost our will to fight. They will not stop. They want you, me and everyone who does not agree with them dead. Is this what you want for your children?

Ask yourself this. When has appeasement ever worked? Did it work with the Viking raiders in Northern England? What about the bararian hordes that destroyed the Roman Empire when they lost the will to fight? How about the Nazis? Did Hitler stop when we gave and gave and gave? No, they keep coming. There are thousands of other examples. The reason there are no pacifists after wars is because the aggressor kills them all.

And above all, yes, I know my spelling sucks.

For twelve years there has been a republican congress. The fact that it is the 109th Congress means nothing. The only reason why the economy ever seemed to do well in the 90's is because of the internet boom. And even so, that lasted for no more than 4-5 years until the uncertainty of internet security became an issue.

In 1996 Bill Clinton addressed the nation one night and said that within ten years, the most jobs that would be available to american citizens will be service jobs. That means lube techs at Pennzoil and burger flippers at McDonald's.

Fast forward to the 2004 election and what did Bush say? His administration was responsible for the creation of x amount of jobs, except that those jobs he "created" were actually service jobs spawned from the Clinton-era in which he threw into a higher tax bracket so that the spectrum between low and high class wages would be decreased.

Secondly, Congress has done nothing in terms of national security. They've created an impotent branch of government known as the homeland security department which effectively takes unconstitutionalism to new heights with domestic wiretapping and suppression of opposing views on media networks nationwide. Not what I would call high-class journalism. Should probably mention the use of fightin' words against the rest of the world has also done nothing to ensure that we are any safer than before the first bomb threat at the World Trade Center in 1993.

Our disaster relief department, FEMA, as well as our government, stalled in what could be the biggest natural disaster in U.S. History. No relief was sent in preparation or in rescue until well after conditions escalated to extreme proportions, and the man in charge was at home on his couch eating cheetos the night before the hurricane struck the coast.

So, in conclusion, it's not *just* the 109th Congress. It's been the last 12 years; if not more. This is why Nancy Pelosi says, "The do-nothing congress has come to an end."- Or something to that effect.

And it is time to progress and move forward. It is time to spawn a new generation of technologies, jobs and humanitarian ideas.

I think we had to learn something from the last 6-7 years. And I think as a nation, we learned a lot. And one of those things is, just by the concept of globalization, we have put the very fabric of our national economy in jeopardy. We're no longer the lone economic / military superpower. If other nations refuse and will not step up to the plate to provide acceptable conditions for their future generations, then another single superpower will emerge.

But as it stands, the 109th Congress virtually meant nothing to any of us.

Ignored 9-11 intelligence? That was the FISA courts. The FISA courts do not listen to the NSA who provided them with the intelligence. The FISA courts just dissmiss their reports as if they are nothing. That is one reason Bush broke the law after 9-11, because he realized the FISA courts were doing absolutely nothing. Wow, now to answer your question

The 109th congress declared war on Iraq. By doing such, the coalition forces prevented Saddam from selling oil to France and Russia in exchange for weapons (why did they not back the war, yet evidence pointed towards yes(even if fabricated), no one knew otherwise, yet, they did not, maybe their greed for oil had something to do with it)

First off, tell me the pre 9-11 "intelegence". Also, Congress doesn't do anything for the economy. We are a Capitalist country. In order for the economy to be healthy people need to spend money. People need to make money to spend money. Last time I check unemployment was at an all time low. That would mean that people are makeing money. They chose to go to war. That means the 109th congress liberated millions of people from a tryant dictator. I don't understand how this is embarassing for the republicans? Umm...Congress has 535 members. Pretty sure they aren't all republicans. That means if you don't think that the late congress didn't do anything you don't think your party did anything. So please continue being an idiot, just please don't vote. Oh, and didn't the democrates PROMISE instant change once they got to power. Well, where is the change?

Congress has nothing to do with the economy, unless bills they pass are able to be utilized to stimulate it. And actually, if you knew anything about economics, you would know that our particular economics run in two to four year cycles. This means that our good economy is actually the result of bills passed by the 108th and 107th Congress.

Why surely, I'm glad you asked.
They let the President do away with that pesky Habeas Corpus.
They make me feel all warm and snugly when I'm on the phone or the computer, knowing they are listening, makes me feel safer.
They passed tax breaks to stimulate the economy, the trickle down effect. That makes me feel all warm too, but it smells a little like pee-pee.
They got rid of people like Tom Delay, Scooter Libby, Duke Cunningham, Bob Ney and Mark Foley. I would say that was an excellent year for the ethics committee.
They helped by putting money back into the economy too, all the spending on arms and munitions. Keeps people working.
The best thing they accomplished was to remove that tyrant Saddam and liberate Iraq. That also makes me feel all warm and snugly and somehow safer.

Here you go;
1. They balanced the budget and created a surplus.
2. They resolved the global warming issue and our dependency on middle east oil by converting to hydrogen fuel.
3. They made health care affordable for all Americans.
4. They stop all our jobs from going overseas.
5. They won the war on terrorisms
6. They solved the immigration problem.
7. They encouraged an economy that provided a good job for all those who wanted one.
8. Made college more affordable.

Did I leave anything out?

Question is what did congress do for the economy? Congress has done nothing to support our economy and I hope they keep it up. It's all partisan politics these days. Who cares what we want, how do I get re-elected?
