Well, there is always discrimination in Texas. I think California is a better place to live.

I stay in Austin. by way of fact Austin has a extensive severe-tech community, as nicely as a extensive college, it particularly is an extremely diverse city for its length. they only opened a clean Asian center on the North part of city and this isn't any longer uncommon to confirm Asian markets and businesses everywhere in the city. i understand much less approximately Houston, yet i understand there's a extensive and lively Korean community. i'm particular that in the time of a few areas of powerful Texas, exceedingly the extra rural areas or smaller cities, would have much less selection. yet, in the cities themselves, there should not be a situation.

I moved last year to Houston from Los Angeles. After having only been away from Los Angeles when I was in the Army, I can safely say that I HATE Houston. It's flat, mostly hot and humid, and has NOTHING to do.
I was born in Taiwan, but grew up in Los Angeles. I can speak the language, and I eat the food, but I don't really hang out with the people (yeah, I'm a twinkie). From this perspective, I can see how whites perceive asians. In Los Angeles, they're just part of the crowd. In Texas, they're OTHERS, but not-so-much bad OTHERS, just people other than whites.
I have been noticing that the Louisiana Evacuees (bad ones) have been targeting the asian population for break-ins (even in our new subdivision, an old Vietnamese guy almost had his back door kicked in before he got the police).
Your parents should be fine here. I wouldn't suggest you move here, because this place SUCKS (compared to LA). I have heard great things about Austin, though. I definitely have a much better house here for the price (new 2910 sq foot house with $15000 upgrades for $200,000 vs new 2100 sq foot house with zero upgrades in Palmdale, CA for $450,000).

There is a HUGE Asian population in the Houston area. We have our own little "China Town" and "Little Saigon". I cannot answer what it is like to be Asian in Texas, but I can tell you that after studing Chinese in high school and getting to know the area and the people, I can say that it can be quite nice! Here are a few links that might help you out!

Asians are very well received in both Houston and Austin. Southeast Asians (Viet, Thai, Lao, Indonesian, etc) form a very large populaton in Houston, numbering at least 150,000. They own many businesses and are prominent in the Houston greater community, which is well known for its diversity. Austin has a larger Chinese-American population, and is of course a great place to live.

Hi ummm Houston is a ethnic melting pot. And there are many areas that have large asian populations. Take Harwin for example. It has a larger chinese population than china town. And as far as treatment goes. Everyone is treated equally.

Houston has a Chinatown, Vietnamese Town, and Korean Town (there may be more that I haven't found yet). Austin is much more diverse, but also much more liberal. If your parents are more conservative, they might like Houston better.
