I have a 2005 Subaru Outback. Today I went outside to start the car, and it would not start. I had to give it a little gas before it would start. When it finally did start, the car shuddered and thick gray exhaust came out of the tailpipes. Any ideas as to what is wrong? I'm afraid to drive it anywhere!!

With the type of system you have on your car you are not supposed to give them a little gas. You may have just got a little extra gas in there. You do not have an accelerator pump so there is no need to pump it.

Go to auto supply get Slick 50 fuel injector cleaner and put in fuel tank, best stuff and it works, Next before you start your car turn your key on and wait until your dash lights go off before starting, about 10 seconds, it lets your fuel pump build up pressure and allows your computer to check all systems

You were accelerating to much gas. If you havent this wouldnt had happened. But other than that, your car is fine...its safe to drive around.

Well you almost flooded it by stepping on the gas. It might be in need of a tuneup,or the filter is telling you needs to be replaced. The fuel one that is.
