The Steelers are suffering from a super bowl hangover and it is finally starting to wear off. The hangover has led to turnovers which is very uncharacteristic of the Steelers and it all started back early in the season when they played the Bengals.

Besides the hangover though, there were some distractions that took place during the of season which carried over into the start of the season. The big one was if Cowher would return after his big new purchase in North Carolina, then he decided not to extend his contract with 2 years remaining as he has traditionally done in the past. The other big distraction was Ben and his accident. Although Ben did everything possible to get better and make sure he didn't miss any time there was still some concern from the team if he was really ready or not.

The departure of players had nothing to do with because the Steelers return 19 of their 22 starters from the Super Bowl team. The 3 starters were Hope (S), Kimo (DE), and ARE (WR). Chris Hope was replaced by Ryan Clark and Tyrone Carter which have filled in nicely. The Steelers also drafted Anthony Smith who has shown some great promise for the future. Kimo was in his mid 30's it was only a matter of time before he would be leaving anyway. Brett Keisel, Kimo's replacement, came on strong last year and was very involved with the defense during the playoff run of 05, the dude is a monster and is a huge upgrade from Kimo. ARE was probably the biggest loss because of everything he did for the team. The Steelers drafted Holmes and Reid to replace him and unfortunately Reid has been injured for most of the Season but Holmes has really started emerge lately and is becoming a very good replacement for ARE.

You're probably wondering 'what about the Bus?" He wasn't a starter but he has been missed because now the Steelers don't have that grind it out kind of back anymore. Parker has been doing an outstanding job though carrying the load and is proving that the Steelers don't need that big back.

The Steelers will return to form next year. Thursday night against the Browns you could see that spark return to the team so they are definitely getting hungry for another run!

i've got self belief the Steelers will return to dominance in the AFC North. the line is only no longer uncomplicated yet to the guy who mentioned the Steelers lost their id i think of you're loopy. The id is the Rooneys, and the kind of ball the Steelers have been enjoying for the previous 35 years. working the ball with a professional Bowl RB and stifling protection is the Steelers strengths and its a formula with shown fulfillment. The Steelers complete up 6-2 as quickly as Roethlisberger have been given on objective, issues would have been very diverse final season if the Steelers would have gained one extra interest. they might have made the playoffs. as long as everyone seems to be healthful the Steelers would be high quality. The Browns would be fortunate to win 4 video games, the Bengals will proceed to below acheive and lose each vast interest they play in, and the Ravens often is the Steelers significant competion for the branch crown. The Ravens lost Adalius Thomas and Jamal Lewis, McGahee would be harm by employing week 5 and if McNair is going down its interest over, the Pittsburgh Steelers would be 2008 AFC North branch Champions... back...

There are several things that could be wrong with the Steelers. Of course a quarterback breaking their face riding a motorcycle is always a bad thing. Retirements don't help. Injuries to key players on their defense which is the heart of the Steelers won't get you anywhere. Big Ben's head got really big after last year and he thought he was indestructable. But one thing that has happened is that every team that plays the Steelers wants nothing more that to kick their butt. Last year they were very underestimated and teams didn't realize it until they were Superbowl Champions. But now the pressure has been too much to bear and all the other issues surrounding this team has caught up with them. They better try to find a way to correct it soon or there could be a few more season's like this one in the future. Hope you enjoyed being Champions because you definitely won't be this year.

Well, to start...they suck. Then you got Big Ben...well, he sucks and could possibly have been the most overrated QB last year and leading to now. He rode the Bus out (no pun intended) and then got exposed. Look at his numbers. He wasn't even allowed to throw much cause he was so bad.

I think that Big Ben did not recover fully from his motorcycle accident in the spring and then get knocked out during the game right off the bat when the season starts. Also, they lost Antwan Randle El and The Bus retired. It all adds up. I still root for them though.

Big Ben has never had to be "the man" until this year. Last year he relied on The Bus and Randel El.....This year, he doesn't have any play makers and his lack of skill is really showing.

Tough schedule, reduced running game, lesser receivers, Ben's injuries, and Cowher's stupid facial hair....
