Since there are no fans in the hard drive I'll assume you are talking about your case fans. I recommend cleaning out the case fans with a can of compressed air at least every six months. If you use your computer every day you should probably do it every month. If you are a smoker you should never smoke around your computer. That will clog the fans and destroy your CD drive.

Make sure to practice proper safety when cleaning out the fans. I strongly recommend wearing an antistatic bracelet any time you are going into your computer. Static electricity can and will destroy your computer if you aren't careful.

Clean up the Insides of your computer first.
It will make it easier to figure out if you need a new hard drive and easier to install one if you do need a new one.

You should be able to see the fan at the back of the box built into your power supply. If it is clogged with dust you need to clear it so your computer stays cool.

Get some help opening up your computers outer case and carefully clean the dust out of the insides.

Like Cool_clearwater said. It may be time to get a new hard drive. Clean out the computer's insides anyway.

Your hard drive should not make clunking or loud clicking sounds. Computer builders, and amateur home computer builders, fondly refer to the hard drive sounds that click or clunk, as, "the click of doom".

If you have anything on the computer you wrote or made with the tools for writing, making art, or photographs...Save them to a floppy disk, or a CD-R disk, or find an Internet site with enough free storage space to upload your goods until you get your hard drive replaced and the software like Windows, Linux, restored to the new hard drive. So, when you are able to get your computer back in good shape you can use the floppy disk, or CD-R to put them back on your computer, or so when you connect up with the Internet again you can download all your saved stuff back on your healthy machines hard drive.

there are actually no fans on your hard-drive,what you may be hearing is noice coming from a build up of dust on your CPU fan or possibly your Graphics Card fan..if your hard drive is making noise i would suggest backing up anything important that you have stored on your pc and prepare to buy a new one.but to rid yourself of the dust in your fans consult your computer dealer if it is still under warranty,or simply remove all power to the pc,remove the casing and remove the dust yourself using a motherboard vacuum or even a small paintbrush will often work just fine..but be sure not to touch anything except the fans(never touch the motherboard with anything metal or magnetic..
hope this helps..

The annoying sound is a pretty good indication that there's an accumulation of dust on the fan blades. It never hurts to clean them, so go ahead and do it. That should help with the noise.

It should be cleaned about every 4 months, depending on how much you use your computer..When there is dirt in there, the fans will run more frequently..

it will be that the ball bearings contained in the fan are going undesirable and it is going to opt to get replaced quickly. that is a immediately ahead section alternative and may no longer cost you too a lot at a computer fix save.
