rats...leopard gecko. I have rats and a leopard gecko. I always say rats, because they really are great animals, but you have to change their bedding every two weeks or so depending on whether you have just one or more than one....so they do take a little bit of work, but not much....they're pretty clean. Rats are also very cheap to obtain, easy to care for, very sweet animals, and only live about two years, so you don't have some major commitment with them, like a dog or cat. Now, a leopard gecko will live for a long time. I'm not 100% sure what their max life expectancy is, but I've had mine for about 5 years. I swear he is the only animal that I still have after all the moves I've been through. They are very, very hardy animals and if they get forgotten for a bit or need to be left at home alone for a week or so, that's not a problem. I'm really surprised that mine is still alive after all it's been through. But, he's still here and just as hardy as ever. They do great with moves and don't require much cleaning. They usually go to the bathroom in one spot and it can be scooped pretty much from that one corner. I keep mine in a 10 gallon fish tank, with medium sized aquarium gravel (big enough that he can't swallow) and he gets fed primarily crickets....very easy to care for, as well as very docile.

Well... pets are work. Period. But really, fish don't take a lot to maintain... unless you're planning on getting a humongous tank, well then yeah, it would be a lot of work. But if you just have a small tank with 2 or 3 fish, it's not that much work. You COULD get a cat, cuz then you don't have to worry about taking it out to the bathroom like you would for a dog --- but then you have the litter box to worry about.
We travel with our dogs (and our cats, when we had them) all the time, and they never got stressed out... so moving won't be that big of a deal.... but whatever I can't really think of a "no work" pet.

Guinea Pigs! I have two and I reckon they are much easier to take care of then a fish from personal experience. Feeding is easy too, because you just need to get your fruit and vege skins or scraps to feed them once a day. So instead of throwing out leftover fruits and vegetables, give them to your guinea pigs. If you were to be moving around alot, you may want to choose a cage that could go indoors. This will not fully effect them when you move becuase they would be kept in their same cage environment.
Good Luck on your final decision!

I think you should get a Hamster, they come in a lot of different sizes. They don't smell much and you can easily clean there cage. You should get a Big Hamster because then you wont be nerves if you cant find it because little hamster tend to go under the bedding and sleep and usually people think they might be gone.
I recommend a Big Hamster for starters. And you can easily take them every where you want.

How about a pet snake? They don't take loads of looking after. Or birds. Get a pair though so that they don't get lonely. Igauna's are good pets Just about any reptile actually takes minimal care. Also, you can get a tank and put newts in it. They are fun to watch.

Get a gerbil. They are lots of fun, if you give them enough food they can go up to 3 days on there own. U can teach them to go potty in a jar. And if they escape their cage, lure them back with sunflower seeds or corn in a trail leading to the inside of their cage

Get a hamster, they are not bothered by moving and really do not need a lot of attention, and they are fun to play with when you do, if you dont get that i would suggest a bird.
