What happened to just plain giving? What is the difference between giving someone a present, or "gifting" them? It sounds very ceremonial, or else like we're smacking them upside the head. Did advertisers come up with this to make us spend more and make a bigger deal out of "gifting"?

It's so lame. Like "Doable," "feminar," webinar,"....oh, and don't get me going about "growing" a company.

To "Gift" someone, you dress up and put on heels and make sure the present is wrapped perfectly in expensive linen paper and $5.00 per yard ribbon from Harrod's. It doesn't even matter what the gift is, it's all about the "gifting."

To give someone a present, you use the comics section from the newspaper, slap some masking tape on it, find a used bow that hasn't been squished, and hand it to the person without further ado.

How hard is that?

You know...I hadn't paid attention to it until you just mentioned it. The link below is just one of many for "Business Gifting Solutions." It's a new way to advertise to get corporations to spend money (at least this link is). Yes, it is making a bigger deal out of "giving" by calling it "gifting" as if giving is something less than.

Bah Humbug!

Not only stupid but also sometimes deceptive. There are some scams or "pyramid" schemes now in operation who also use the term "gifting" as a means to get people to join.

I agree, it's corny but I believe just about everything in this society is rediculous. It's all a ploy to get you to spend more money.
