Just take a your wedding certificate (not a copy) and your driver to the Social Security office and do a name change. After that you need to go the DMV and with your wedding certificate again and do a name change there as well. After that it is just a matter of informing other's that you have changed your name, ex. Credit Cards, Banks, Auto Loan Companies...etc.

If you are talking about when you are married to get the guys last name, well you do that with marriage certificate and when you get married the last name may change depending on whether or not you both agree to that. If you are talking about after a divorce, well normally the judge asks you when you are in court as to whether or not you want to keep your last name as the same or if you want to go back to your maiden name. I am unsure if this helps simply because the question is so vague.

all you have to do is go to the social security dept with a copy of your marriage license and they will do all the work..if its not for marriage, then you will have to go through an attorney, sorry..my stepdad paid for mine and my daughters name change which cost him $450..and that was two names to be changed..go to the cheapest attorney, your petition will have to be in the news paper for about 4 to 6 weeks, then you'll have to appear before a judge to make it legal..i hope some of this made sence to you..its not cheap though..sorry..

Do you mean change your maiden name to your married name? You just do it. You take your marriage certificate to the DMV for a new driver's license and to the SS administration building for a new social security card. Pretty routine, although there are small fees.

Are you talking about when you divorce? If that's the case, when your divorce is finalized (this is after you've filed but before it goes on public record) the judge will ask you (he did me anyway) if you want to take your maiden (or last married) name back. If you do it at that time (according to him) there is no charge. He said to do it once he has finalized it, it will cost $300.00 or more.

if you got married, call ssn place, they should have info in your packet to do so or you can call your courthouse and they'll give it to you...then you fill out the paper and it's done...You do have to pay for a new ssn card when you pick it up from the office...
