Wash with hot soapy water or bleach if you have used it for raw meat. Then coat it with mineral oil to keep it from drying out.

Hi Amber: You look just like me! Anyway, first scrape off any food particles off the cutting board. Then, use a scrubber and clean it with dishwashing liquid and very warm running water. DO NOT let it soak; that will split the board. Then when it is clean, towel it dry immediately and put it away, standing on its side. About once every couple of months, you can add some food grade lemon oil to the board, then rub it with beeswax. Good luck.

It is not desireable to use a wooden cutting board for cutting up raw meat, fish, or poultry. A plastic cutting board, which can be run through a dishwasher, is a safer surface for cutting these foods. I would use a wooden cutting board only for fruits and vegetables and cooked meats, and would immediately clean it after cutting meat on it.

Hydrogen peroxide will clean it and sanitize it. This is the same stuff you use on a cut. Salt works too, but the peroxide kills more germs.

After most chopping, just use hot soapy water. But after cutting raw meats spray with bleach, let stand and then wash with hot soapy water.
