lots of migranes are a result of spinal mis alignment, and have been corrected and stopped by ralignment by a chiropractor.
fresh ginger, or candied ginger, as the headache starts, make a tea or take some capsules. lie down in a dark quiet room, with a cool clothe over your eyes. the toothpaste thing sounds interesting..also, apply pressure to the indentations just above your nose, right under your eyebrows, and massage your temples..good luck

There are alot of variables to a migrane. The best remedy if any is go to sleep when the vision part starts. I have tried putting my head through the wall before to maybe get rid of the pain. That does not work. But lots of caffine to thin your blood helps alittle. I do not like medicine either. Goto your local Herb store and get valarian root. Make a tea (Smells like dirty socks) and enjoy the ride. Other than that I do not think that there is any cure for the problem as I have tried everything that has been reccomended by everyone. Good Luck.

My wife suffers from migranes, too, and refuses to take medications. She takes Gatorade to help quell the pain. Stay out of the bright light, eat crackers or rice soup (3/4 cup rice with 2.5 cups water, 1" long peice of fresh ginger root [sliced in julienne strips], bring to a boil, reduce heat for 20 minutes) to keep something in your stomach, and rest.

There are natural remedies from Chinses herbalists that you might want to consider. They can help.

Check out Dr Andrew Weil's website (www.drweil.com) for homeopathic remedies that might help.

TLC from a loved one is a big help--especially when they give back and head rubs to relieve the tension.

I would recommend a more accepting attitude towards medicine. Imitrex made my life so much happier. Migranes make you sesitive to light, so putting on a sleeping mask and lying down might help.

HOT shower (water pounding on head and neck) NO shampoo though or anything w/fragrance. followed by a QUIET DARK room and a nap. You may try caffiene, a cup of tea or coffee. Sometimes helps mine.
