It bothers me that when someone simply does not know the answer to something, they refer to themselves as dummies. No one is born with knowledge; you learn like everyone else. And it is quite smart to ask for help when needed as opposed to performing an action without helpful information from someone else. Did you know that Einstein was considered mentally challenged in mathematics when he was in school? Now he's considered one of the most brilliant minds in history. Anyway, enough of my side. The pups are what I call offshoots; in nature, they would simply take over as the mother plant dies. In a home situation, I would wait until the parent plant starts to show signs of maturing beyond its prime; i.e. browning, drying and so on. Maintain water in the natural vase. It is better to wait and be late than to rush and be mush. Or something like that. The plant will tell you when it is ready to remove it from the mother. Then take a sharp knife, cut and replant. It may even snap off fairly easily. Keep water in the vase, and do not overwater. And old treatment I have used is to dust the wound with powdered sulphur (stinks, so be frugal) or even baking soda, which are natural anti-fungal agents. Good luck.

It's really easy. Just hold the mother plant firmly at the base, where the pup is coming out, and holding the pup firmly as well, pull apart. Don't yank, just gently keep adding pressure til they seperate. They're very resilient. Don't worry...once they pup, the mother is usually useless anyway.

I think you would probably just snip the root that probably attaches them. Then plant the pup.
