Can anyone tell me if the movie "Kingdom of Heaven" is fictional or not. Do you think this is an appropriate film to review for my World Civ to 1650 class?

The characters were either fake or exaggerated from the real thing but the bases of the movie is real. I wouldn't advice using it to review world history because, it doesn't focus on the whole story of the crusades just a small piece. And the story focuses more on the main character and his struggle to find faith and meaning in life. Good movie but not for factorial history review.

It's a little gory - may want to get permission from the kids' parents before viewing it in class.
I don't believe it is historically accurate. It's probably got some historical references in there, and things like this probably happened then, but I don't believe that the story is based on any one thing - the story in the movie never really happened. It's just a period piece on a time in history, with some historical references. That's all.
Good movie. It would give the kids a look into what it may have been like to live back during the Crusades. Keep in mind, though - it is a bit gory.

It's what they term "historical fiction" so should be taken with a grain of salt...but could be a good, modern film to show depicting events in the times of the Crusades.

I think it is a good fictional movie. Of course there are bits that are changed around for entertainment, but do some research on the main character (Orlando Bloom's character, Balien (sp?) and see what you can find. I personally think its a great movie.

the concept of the film is factual, with the crusaders and stuff like that but the story line is fictional

Yes it's fictional. It's not a very good movie though. If you need one to study you should choose Gladiator.

I would say its a good factual Hollywood version...should be fine to show the students.
