Would the Polls still be done the same? Would there still be unjustice done to teams that are just outside the number of teams in the playoff? How many teams would be in the playoff?

If we had a playoff there would never be a controversy , just take the winner of each Conference and have a playoff plain and simple and then we will really know who the best is , the NCAA needs to take their head out their a-s-s and finally see the light !

Yes, there will always be controversy, especially if the playoff is limited to 4 or 8 teams...
If the #8 team happens to get hot and win it all, the #9 team can always claim that they should have been in the playoff, because they beat the #8 team... especially if #9 beat #8 early in the season, but then lost to someone later, that dropped them below #8...
Just as Michigan thinks they have an argument to be in the championship game this year, the #5 (in a 4 team playoff) or #9 (in an 8 team playoff) would ***** and moan...
In college football, everyone can't be happy.

Good question. There will always be controversy no matter what the case. In my opinion, the best way to go without changing the entire system and keep the BCS in tact would be to have only 8 playoff teams. You would have the 4 BCS games as playoff games, ex.: all 4 games played according to seeding. Then, Fiesta Bowl vs. Rose Bowl winners play each other to play the winner of Sugar Bowl vs. Orange Bowl. Once you have 2 teams left, thats your National Championship game. Every year you'll have crybabies on the outside looking in, but with this format, the true champions will be decided on the field.

I would think the polls would need a bit of tweaking to make sure teams from smaller conferences had some sort of positioning equity. I doubt there'd be any injustice after you get down to the 8-9 ranked teams in the country, because I wouldn't ever expect more than 8 teams to be within 2 wins of having the same record. In other words, I wouldn't see anyone with a 9-3 record making such a playoff unless they played an incredibly tough schedule and had some style points fall their way based on their record against the tougher teams. I would have an 8-team playoff to help ensure integrity and not have 4-loss teams get in and such....

they have playoffs now. they start in august and EVERY game matters. if you take the top 16 teams then every game won't matter as much, you could lose 2, maybe 3, games every year and still make the playoffs. you can't take the winner of each conference because there are 11 conferences, even adding the best of the four independents would only give you 12 teams and that makes a playoff hard to do. the only way to do a 12 team playoff is to give somebody a bye week, but how do decide which teams get a bye week? furthermore, i think the logistics of having a playoff would make it very difficult, if not impossible, to get real fans to every game. personally, i don't think the national championship game should be played in front of only rich alumni and people who have connections. football games are much better when the stadium is filled with students and younger fans who cheer louder, longer, and more enthusiastically.

why not have a 4 team playoff? of course no matter how many are in the playoffs there will always be the next team that argues they should have been included. just do 4 and the second game will decide the only thing that matters--who is numero uno!

The BCS playoff system was created for that very reason. Before BCS, every team in the top 5 was claiming they were national champs or had a claim to the national championship. It appears that nothing has really changed.

If you put lets say 16 teams in the play-offs then the 17th team would be like "Hey what about us" so i think it would still be controversy with a play-off but it would be the best thing to do. I say a 16 team play-off would be great maybe it would work maybe not but we would never know until we tried it. But then you get the bowl games starting to whine about who gets the title game and so on. You could still leave the bowl system in tact and work it out somehow.

no because realistically the teams outside the top 8 dont have a shot at the title.
