I'm all for the honour of the ladies. Whether swords are the answer dont know, maybe we should bring back duels, even if it's just fistycuffs. Far more British dont you think. Personally I would probably like the idea of a nice longbow with a good sized quiver of arrows. Least if the yobs tried to get away I wouldnt have to chase after the buggers

the way I see it
please do not get mad
but
you would have a little more than half the men in the world carrying swords looking for the few ladies , actual ladies left in the world...
then you would have a lot of female also carrying the swords saying they can protect themselves and a few of those females would be wanting to do battle for the honor to also protect the few actual ladies left in the world.
so I do not think it would actually work out.
it is at least 75 -100 years to late for this ...
as a world we have all lost because of the lack of being able to protect what men were made to protect...
OH well, a new time is coming
much more fun for all

Im 54 from Australia and remember a time when all kids in my area carried sheath knives, or at least a pen knife from age 6 or so. When I was with my nepphews recently I told them this.....they promptly got a kitchen knife and I threw it 10 feet into a tree trunk.....thwunkkk. It was like I had come from a different planet! We also had a dog usually and trained them to defend us. No one batted an eye when I was ten carrying a loaded 22 down the main street to go target shooting. We all.....particularly kids live in fear nowadays. My peers years ago had no such worries. The first child kidnapping in this country was in the 60's.

The last time I carried my sword in hand in public I got arrested
I swore blind that it was only out to protect the lady's honour but they wouldn't believe me.
Wouldn't it be marvellous to return to the times when if one was faced with an unsavoury looking beggar one could simply run him through with ones rapier and be about our business as normal. Perhaps we should invite some of the locals up to beat grouse this weekend and we could use a few of them for swordsmanship practise

Bad idea. Looking at someone's girlfriend/sister/daughter/person they like too is grounds for a fight to some people and thugs could carry swords just as easily and as legally.
Admittedly it might cut down on the population of violent people though.

That reaks of a shovanistic-ness,or somthing.Eeeeww. Ladies dont need any x-chromosomed indidual taking care of them. Besides,who carries swords,beside Darthvater (or whoever he is.) And as I am assuming you mean boyfriends taking care of their girlfriends,then what about single people? I'm not sure about anyone else but in my community,we have police, so we dont have a large problem with "local Thugs". At least not at large.

Yes, but that may just be because I am a lady. Though I think it isn't needed because most abducted and raped women are single (without a man with a sword to protect her)

How do you decide who are the gentlemen, and who are the thugs. Anyhow, I find that carrying an exocet missile over my shoulder wards off most evil.

I've got one, well a sword walking stick. made it myself out of a "folding" type stick. glue the bottom three peices to make a scabbard and insert an "epee" stile rod in the handle, some comfort when out at night.
