Believe by Brooks and Dunn

Old man Wrigley lived in that white house
Down the street where i grew up
Momma used to send me over with things
We struck a freindship up
I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing

Says he was in the war when in the navy
Lost his wife, lost his baby
Broke down and asked him one time
How ya keep from going crazy
He said I'll see my wife and son in just a little while
I asked him what he meant
He looked at me and smiled, said

(Chorus)
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
Oh i believe

Few years later i was off at college
Talkin' to mom on the phone one night
Getting all caught up on the gossip
The ins and outs of the small town life
She said oh by the way son, old man Wrigley's died.

Later on that night, i laid there thinkin' back
Thought 'bout a couple long-lost summers
I didn't know whether to cry or laugh
If there was ever anybody desevred a ticket to the other side
It'd be that sweet old man who looked me in the eye, said

(Chorus)
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see

I can't quote the book
The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
The longer that i live
Yeah, this can't be
No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is

(Chorus)
When I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
I believe
Oh, I
I believe
I believe
I believe
I believe
I believe

OR How bout Brad Paisleys-- When I Get Where I'm Going

when i get where i'm going
on the far side of the sky
the first thing that i'm gonna do
is spread my wings and fly

i'm gonna land beside a lion
and run my fingers through his mane
or i might find out what it's like
to ride a drop of rain

(chorus)
yeah when i get where i'm going
there'll be only happy tears
i will shed the sins and struggles
i have carried all these years
and i'll leave my heart wide open
i will love and have no fear
yeah when i get where i'm going
don't cry for me down here

i'm gonna walk with my grand daddy
and he'll match me step for step
and i'll tell him how i missed him
every minute since he left
then i'll hug his neck

(repeat chorus)

so much pain and so much darkness
in this world we stumble through
all these questions i can't answer
so much work to do

but when i get where i'm going
and i see my maker's face
i'll stand forever in the light
of his amazing grace
yeah when i get where i'm going
there'll be only happy tears
hallelujah
i will love and have no fear
when i get where i'm going
yeah when i get where i'm going

Hi. Are you talking about music for a soloist? Or organ/piano pieces?

Usually the music is decided upon by the family. They usually talk to the officiating minister and he makes suggestions or takes down requests and presents them to the musicians/organist, etc.

If you are family or for some reason you are the one that has to decide what music to use, then you need to decide what music is appropriate - old -fashioned gospel hymns (The Old Rugged Cross, Abide With Me, Great is Thy Faithfulness, How Great Thou Art, etc.) or something less religious ...family favorites?

how religious is the family?

really, there are no rights and wrongs, just whatever the family deems appropriate.

email me if you want to discuss more....

God bless!

Choose something that the person liked. Maybe a hymn too if it's a religious funeral (23rd psalm is lovely).

"Angel" by Sara McLaughlin.

They played it at my Grandmother's Funeral and it was perfect. They also played Eric Clapton's "Tears in Heaven", but that's gotten a little overly cliche, I think.
