We will be buying a bed shortly but there are a lot of numbers thrown around. We don't want to spend the dinero for a Tempurpedic but we still want a good bed.

I hate the memory foam beds. They are hot and not comfortable.

There are different densities of memory foam and different amounts of pressure relevent to these densities. Serta makes a wonderful bed called "International Touch" that has a lighter density foam and it costs less than Tempurpedic. The idea behind memory foam is that it creates less pressure return on your body so you do not loose circulation. Lesser known brands can create very nice memory foam beds, also, but you need to be sure the warranty is there. Lay on each bed for at least 5 minutes when you are testing them- This type of foam is heat sensitive. Be aware that these beds will be warmer to sleep on than your standard mattress- Gel tops have become popular as to regulate the overall temperature. Also consider buying a well made, well warrantied innerspring mattress with a memory foam euro top on it. This will assure good support years after the foam has worn down.

Tempurpedic is the Cadilliac of the Memory Foam beds...a knock off from Sam's Club is OK too...but not as good. I hate to say it...aren't you worth the extra money. You spend a 1/3 of your life there.

my spouse and I each have arthritis. We got the Temurpedic and sleep like babies.
It's wonderful! Also, it comes with a 30 year warrantee. Beat that.
