No.

A responsible shelter would not let a person adopt a dog without interviewing the person/people who will be responsible for the day-to-day care of the pet. Of course, there are plenty of irresponsible shelters out there, so a lot of puppies who are bought/adopted as Christmas presents wind up going right back to the shelter.

If you really think the person would like a puppy, make a little gift certificate - maybe something "Good for the adoption of one (1) puppy" - and put it in a card for the intended recipient. Then after Christmas, you can both go to the shelter to pick up the dog.

Good luck! : )

Puppies make wonderful presents most of the time but Christmas is not one of them. Unless the present is given to an adult and there isn't too much hussle and bustle around the house.

Puppies need to adapt in their new surroundings and having a house full of screaming banshees and drunk adults is not the way to go.
Wait until after Christmas when things have calmed down and if the gift is for children, make sure they are old enough to understand they must take part of the responsibilities which quickly is left to you after the newness of having a puppy around wears off.

Puppies NEVER make good Christmas present, especially if they're not expected by the recepient. If the person you plan to buy a puppy for is prepared to care for a dog (and has specifically requested a puppy), then it would be fine. But simply giving a puppy just because it's cute is just another unwanted dog that will have to go to the pound.

the only time a puppy makes a good present is if the person really want one and it is the breed that they want..at Christmas time so many people give out those cute little bundles of fur and at first everyone or almost everyone is happy to have it.. but then the little precious babies grow up and are left alone tied in the yard with no one to love them or worst they are sent to the pound or is left abandoned on the side of the road somewhere.. if you are considering giving a puppy first make sure that one is wanted they are living and breathing creatures who have feelings just the same as we do

Yes. There are many circumstances that warrant such a gift. A Blind or otherwise handicapped person would relish the affection the animal can give. To a young child it may teach responsibility among other things. To a dog breeder it may be that choice breed that was unaffordable. For that pet that stays locked up all day while your at work may need a companion. Just give it some thought, you may find your own reason.

If they are plump and tender and the recipient is from Korea. They love their dogs in Asia, especially broiled and ladled with just the right sauce. You know I am kidding, but American Indians and Asians consider them a delicacy. We bought our then eight year old daughter a cat for Christmas. It was from the Humane Society. Puppies make great gifts. Just put a small dish of water in the package and punch air holes in the box. Panda bear cubs make even better gifts, but they are expensive.

If you definitely knew that the person wanted a puppy. But I would surprise them with a stuffed one and a "gift certificate" to go together and pick one out. The puppy should bond with it's owner right away.
