I have a 85 Olds Delta 88 and I haven't put oil in it and it ran out of oil. I know that's really stupid, but it only cost $250 and I was just playing around with it.

Fill it to full on the dipstick and drive it until it self destructs. that way you will be sure to get your money's worth. Most engines have hydraulic valve lifters, and upon complete loss of oil pressure the lifters will collapse, and not open the valves. When this happens, the engine quits running.

Generally once an engine runs out of oil it loses oil pressure. This does all sorts of bad things like ruining bearings, scoring cylinders, flattening cam lobes, and so on. You'll have to spend more than $250 to fix/replace the engine to repair the damage.

An engine has moving parts that grind up against each other. The oil keeps them running smooth and from trashing the part it rubs into. It's a lubricant. If you do not have oil in the car, there is no lube and your engine will seize. Once you engine seizes, its ruined and it'll be cheaper to get a new car.

Are you positive the motor did not have oil in it? How far did you drive it? Does it still run? If it still runs then you did not run it completely out of oil. If when you checked the dip stick and there was no reading on it you are at least 2 quarts low. that motor takes 5 quarts of oil. so if the motor still runs and your driven it more then 30 miles it's not out of oil. everyone else has answeredthe question of what would happen. just wanted to point out to you the dip stick reading.

Well, now you have a 2 ton boat anchor. The engine in that vehicle is now good for nothing but recycling.

Get yourself a new vehicle and check the oil this time. LOL

Yeah, you'll lock it up and it will then become absolute garbage. I would try to make a $250 car last forever just for the bragging rights.

Umm it'll probably over heat pretty quickly...you may not want to play around with it until you put more oil in it...the oil shouldn't be too expensive.

The engine will eventually seize up, and be rendered useless, unless you wanted an anchor.
