I would just like to know opinions on this matter.
i personally hate them. i feel they force children to grow up too early and to be perfectally honest when i see girls so young with loads of make up, short skirts i can only think 2 things...sla**er and teenage pregnancy. i don't think it would be so bad if it was light hearted but parents are so hung up on having they children named the prettyest. why is it we as a society encorage per*erts to pray on our children and they are enraged when it happens?

My cousin enters a lot of those. They have gotten to her HEAD.She thinks she is better than everyone else and that she can tell anybody no matter what age what to do.She didn't used to be like that. Now she's all girly and wears make-up and strapless tops. She only 9.She is to big for her britches.but i knocked her down a couple of sizes the other day with a few right hooks.

It depends on the PAgent... If they need to wear 2 inch skirts and tons of make up that ia wrong, but a little gloss and a cute dress is fine. Also many parents use their kids by maybe saying "if you win I will take you to Disney land" or Something and then the parents use the money. That puts tons of persure on the kids.

I think the serious competitions go too far. You're right that those girls grow up to believe that to be successful you must be pretty- and what happens if they lose their looks as they grow up? It can only lead to strain on the child's psychological development. Its one thing letting a little girl dress up and put on makeup and maybe take dance lessons and that where you get to perform at the end but parading around as a mini sex object which is what they're doing is horrible at such a young age.

I think they're awful. Have you ever seen one of those documentaries where the little girls are either crying their eyes out or piling on makeup posing like a 16-year old? Then you watch the pageant and there are just 15-20 parents in the "audience". Very cruel in my opinion - little girls have enough pressure to grow up too fast.

i think that kids should have a say in the matter. for example if a 5 yr old child wants to enter then fine as long as parents set the rules like no mini skirts or make up. but if the parents are the ones making i\them do it thats just sick and wrong

I completely agree with you. They make young girls want to be sexy and thin and they want curves but they are just kids. They go on diets that are very dangerous to their growing bodies . The people in the pageants look like someone stuck an adults head on a kids body. And the swimsuit part... UGH! a bunch of little girls trying to show of their bodies and look 'sexy'. Whatever happened to innocent children...

I don't like them either. It just teaches them to depend on their looks and that that is all that matters. A Lot of the time girls who have been in beauty pageants later have psychological problems and physical problems like anxiety or anorexia. Little girls who say they want to be in it don't actually know what it is. i think it is wrong to judge a little girl or boy and judge how pretty/cute they look. They are just little children and shouldn't be judged by their looks. the parents are always the main problem.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that child beauty pagents encourage pedophiles, but I agree with many of the points you are making.
Parents have absolute control over their children and child beauty pagents demonstrate what happens when they abuse that control for their own gain or ego.

me im not really into any pagents as i was brought up tom boy like, but the sound of parents incouraging their young children to show their tiny bodies off in front of heaps of people with more make-up than clothes on is really plain disgusting.

it does seem to spew out a bunch of people who in future think they can get anything done for them because they're hot.
also, you cant bring a camcorder to yr kid's school play cuz of paedophilia, but slapping an entire killer whale's worth of cosmetics on a 5-year-old girl is fine.
society's weird.
and all the kids on those things look very frightening.
