Come to Ukraine if you want unique! There are a lot of beautiful old cities, esp in the western part of the country- L'viv (also spelled 'Lvov') is my favorite. Odessa on the Black Sea is an interesting place. Kyiv (the capital) is interesting. Kamyanets'-Podyl'sky in the central part has what is claimed to be the oldest standing European fortress- the old city there is neat. There are a number of historic spas ('Kurorts') in the Carpathian mountains in the West. The country is full of fascinating villages- you'll see everything from ultra-modern (satellite dishes and iPods) to 100-plus years ago (by Amer stds-people in the field (no fences) all day with 1 or 2 cows to watch, some use horses instead of tractors & cars), sometimes side by side. There's also the Crimea- it's the vacation spot of choice for Ukrainians and is crawling with people in the summers. However, this is not the place for people who want a 'Disney World' or 'Palm Beach' vacation (which I didn't gather from your question). Don't drink the water (plenty of bottled H2O around), look out for the bathrooms... The country is still picking up the pieces from economic meltdown after the fall of the USSR and suffers from political corruption; as such, it's a place for adventurous folks who don't just want glitz. Ukraine is generally very open to westerners. And, currently, EU, Canadian, US citizens don't need visas to be here for 90 days.
Poland, right next door, is a bit more 'civilized' and also full of history... Krakow, Warsaw, the Auschwitz Death camp museum (not for the weak-stomached, though)
Really, this part of the world is fascinating.

I have never been, but have been dying to go to Bulgaria. Just think about it. It was locked behind the iron curtain for decades, yet it is an area of the world that holds so much in terms of early civilization, and hardly any tourists go there. I know that it is a burgeoning locale, and they are starting to unearth many ancient relics from thousands of years ago. Think about it.

Go on an Alaskan Cruise, or just go to visit. I'm going for my honeymoon, and cannot wait! Also, Nashville, TN is a pretty cool place, lots to do there and a great night life (if you like country nusic that is). Greece & Italy seem like spectacular places also.
