OKay, so I am breastfeeding, but due to my previous breast augmentation, I am not able to produce enough milk to feed her, so I am having to supplement with formula...What is better?? Nestle Good Start or Enfamil?? The Dr put her on Enfamil w/Iron but she has been passing alot of gas and even fussing before she has a bowel movement...The WIC people suggested Enfamil Gentle Ease, saying it is close to Nestle Good Start..but I dont have the slightest idea what to do....anyone have babies who are both breastfed and on either formula??? My baby will be 3 weeks on Thursday...

You might need to try the two to see how well your baby takes to either. We started on Good Start, but found out that the store brand (in this case Sam's Club Members Mark) actually does best for our baby. He was gassier on the Good Start, much less gassy on the store brand. And store brands are about 3X cheaper, too, while being just as good nutritionally as the big name brands.

If you want to stick to a big name brand though, I would recommend trying the Enfamil Gentlease. I really found that Good Start and their "comfort proteins" didn't make any difference with our baby. Gentlease is already partially broken down and is specifically for fussy/gassy babies. If she doesn't do well on Gentlease, try to find a formula that doesn't foam up when you mix the powder and water. Seriously, in my experience, more foam equals more gas.

Another thing you might want to consider is what kind of bottles you are using. Using a good anti-colic bottle (like Avent or Dr. Browns) will significantly help with gassiness.

Good luck! I hope you find a formula that works for you!

Enfamil has the best "track record", honestly the gas is probably being caused by the alternating more than the type of formula.

honestly....there is no one that can tell you the BEST formula for your baby....some babies will take some brands and not others....most babies prefer a certain kind of formula and that's them and that's what goes best with their body....The most common are Similac and Enfamil but I think that they're actually the same company...not sure though....Whole Foods makes the Horizon brand which is a little more expensive but organic....congrats on your baby by the way!
