I know what you're going through. I decided to not spend so much this year but I kept seeing things that my boys would like and so what started off as quite a nice modest pile of presents has resulted in two huge mountains of presents and one very skint mummy. I just can't help myself at christmas though, I want them to love it and they're far from spoilt little boys because this is the only time of year I go overboard on them. I might be penniless now but I won't care when I see their faces on xmas morning, they're going to love it!! :o)

Oh yes. My 12 year old is getting the same thing. And it has been so hard. I have told him that he should not expect to get the same size of pile as previous years as his presents are now more expensive than before. He seemed to get this and I was reinforcing it regularly but I am terrified he will be disappointed - so we have spent a fortune. I don't know the way around it - I think it is more about OUR expectations of their reactions rather than their own expectations.
I am sure it will be a good day either way - but I spread it out through the year now - doesn't seem as if I am spending so much then.

My mum puts money away all year i think, but to be honest I don't and never have expected much at christmas. Im weird and once i got t about 13/14 i just loved my uncle comming form London for the week, and seeing my nan give me her present and come round for dinner etc. All the lovey dovey chirstmas stuff. We bought "now thats what we call a music quiz" interactive DVD last year, and we played it for hours. Nice family time. Where was I? Oh yeah, i see what you mean though, my mum is always like "it looks too small" etc!

I know what you mean, im not a parent though i'm just a kid. But me and my sister both asked for Nintendo ds lite's for christmas and that already is over a hundred dollars each and then games and cases and extra stuff to go with it already makes it over 200 dollars each and that is all we are getting but I dont feel bad at all because I know how much money it was and I know how much fun it is going to bring me because you can play with it just as long as a bunch of pidly items. So it is pretty even either way. Your kid should be so happy about getting his x box he wont even worry about getting other gifts. Plus even if i could ask for more presents I dont know what else i would ask for because I already have what i need and i'm sure your kid does too. So dont feel to bad.

I totally agree with everyone!!!
I have found that shopping throughout the year makes a big difference. I refuse to wait until the day after thanksgiving to get good deals. It is too chaotic now because everyone seems to have waited until the last minute.
You would be so surprised how much you can save when you buy things during the "off season."

I totally agree. That's why I asked my Mom for a Nintendo Wii for Christmas. Wait a second, that doesn't make sense...
