This is one of the busiest times of the year. Depending on the ride, you may be talking hours. Plan, plan, plan. Go early, take a rest in the middle of the day, and return at night. Lines are fairly short in the morning, right when the park opens, and gets more and more crowded during the day. If you're an early bird, get in the park, and start as far away from the main gate as possible (yes, run to the other side of the park.) People crowd in and hit the rides up front, skip those, and go to the back.
Take a break during the heat of the day (yes, it's possible that it could be in the 90's.) Take a monorail over to the hotels, have a bite to eat, sit by the pool, take a nap. Then, about 4pm, go back to the park. Parents with little kids are on their way out (they've had enough). Most of the attractions at the front of the park are now less crowded... (everyone's in the back!)
Check the schedule for parades... shorter lines! About two hours before close, people are trying to beat the rush to get out...shorter lines.
Have a good time.

You should expect a 45 minute wait in line on a normal day, just to be safe (rides like Soarin', Mission: SPACE, Expedition Everest, etc.) always have waits of at least an hour. After Christmas it's still going to be very busy (right up until the week after New Years'.) Expect to be waiting in line at least an hour for the newer, more popular attractions, and a half an hour for other attractions.
It's worth it, though! Have fun!

Just got back from Disney two days ago. Last time we went was during the winter break - after Christmas - and some lines were up to two hours long, such as Space Mountain. The parks were all crowded, shoulder to shoulder people, lines even for the bathrooms, ten to fifteen people deep lines for food at some places. Patience was key, plus the bottled water. (Bring your own!)
But last week, we were able to walk right up to nearly every ride and not wait for more than five minutes. Everest and Dumbo (go figure - Dumbo!) were the longest wait - fifteen minutes. Space Mountain - five minutes. We didn't stake out our space for the parades until maybe ten minutes before, and even then, it didn't really matter.

Disney World - Christmas through New Year's Day is the most crowded, while the week after Thanksgiving through the week before Christmas is the least crowded. This generally holds true for most other attractions as well.

Depends how far after. Early January is okey-dokey, with MLK Day being busy. But if your talking Dec. 25-Jan. 2, I would suggest to you that everybody and his cousin will be there.

depending on your travel agency, Disneyworld lowers all of its pricing criteria after 2 january, and the lines disappear as well.
